Why Do I Need Underinsured and Uninsured Auto Insurance?

Everyone in Arizona needs underinsured and uninsured auto insurance.  At least once a week, I have a client who comes to me, who has been in a collision with a driver who has inadequate insurance coverage. This leaves these clients in a horrible situation where they’re not able to collect the full amount of their damages, pain and suffering.
If they had just taken the time to add underinsured and uninsured coverages (UIM & UM) to their own policy, they would be so much better off. It’s not up to us to make everyone else buys more than the state minimum $15,000 policy.  But we can all control our own policy and ultimately make sure our families and loved ones are covered.  Trust me, I am speaking from experience and it is so inexpensive to add these critical coverages.
I urge everyone to look at their policy and make sure UIM & UM is listed on their declarations page. If it is not, call your insurance agent or company and add UIM and UM right now!  It’s always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.  Additionally, if you have to use these coverages due to the negligence of another person, your rates do not increase. In Arizona these coverages are also portable, so you should be covered even if you’re riding a bike or a pedestrian and a vehicle hits you.
Get your UIM & UM coverage and you won’t regret it. Especially in Arizona where a huge portion of drivers have the barely legal policies in place. Enjoy the peace of mind that you’re covered- even if the other guy isn’t.
